Thoughts on Art & Business
Making it through the Monday of all Mondays
When I sat down at my desk yesterday, it felt like my first day at a new job. My routine was off, my inbox was overflowing, and my to-do list had grown legs while I was gone. I made it through the day slowly but surely, ending with a headache and a long sigh. Mondays are hard. The first day back after time off can really throw you for a loop—and I know I’m not the only one.
So I wanted to share a few things that helped me get through the day and ease back into the rhythm, in case they help you too.
How A Working Styles Doc Just Changed The Game…
I recently onboarded a new client who came prepared with a fabulous Working Styles doc. I couldn’t believe how helpful it was to have all of that information laid out for me upfront. It was simple, streamlined, and such an effective way to understand her preferences and how she likes to work.
I was so grateful for the clarity it offered that I knew right away I needed to create one of my own. After drafting my version, I realized it could be just as helpful to share here—for future clients to reference and for anyone who might want a starting point to customize for their own needs.
All Aboard The Onboarding Train!
So, you’ve met with a potential new client, and things seem like a good fit… now the real work begins!
I want to share a bit about my approach to onboarding and how to make the most of this formative time together. By this point, you should know your client’s major priorities, the gaps they’re looking to you to fill, and the logistics that make your work possible and supported. You’ll want to keep all of this front-of-mind as you develop a new working relationship, so you can stay focused on what really matters.
I’m going to share some of my favorite questions to help start a new partnership on the right foot.
Working From Home With Seasonal Affective Disorder
Over the years, I’ve tried lots of things to combat the dreaded darkness that comes with winter: medications, tanning, vitamins, special light bulbs. One of the most helpful approaches, though, has been a more holistic mindset—one that honors and respects the seasons and the different energy they bring. The earth moves through phases, and as part of nature, I think it’s important to honor those shifts. Here’s kind of how I view the seasons and their general vibes:
Art lately : July 2025
I’ve been making things again.
And it feels undeniably good.
Making art soothes me. I can literally feel my nervous system slowing down, calming, and settling into a natural rhythm as I draw.
I’m so grateful that art does that for me. When I was growing up, that wasn’t always the case.
Pixel Projects : July 2025
Take a peek behind the curtain at my first-ever attempts at pixel art. I had fun! I learned a lot! 10/10 recommend.
PSA: No Critics At The Art Jam!
I stopped inviting my inner critic to my creative practice, and it totally changed my life. Stop letting your inner critic call the shots and get back into the creative flow!
Creativity Tips for Non-Artists
Here’s the thing—creativity isn’t just for artists. It’s for anyone who’s ever solved a problem, rearranged a messy system, or figured out a new way to get things done. You don’t need a paintbrush or a poetry degree to be creative. You just need a little curiosity and permission to play.
If you’ve ever felt like creativity wasn’t “for you,” this post is your official invitation to color outside the lines.
The Art of Anticipation: How EAs and Artists Read the Room
One of the most valuable skills I’ve picked up—both as an artist and as an Executive Assistant—is the ability to read the room.
It’s not exactly magic, though it can feel that way when you’re doing it right. 🪄🎩🐇
From Desk to Destination: Thoughts on the WFH Lifestyle
I’m writing this from a plane, en route to San Diego—and I can’t express how good it feels not to be using up all my vacation days for this trip.
I feel relaxed.
This kind of autonomy feels like a deep stretch: expansive, comforting, healthy.
That said, if I weren’t intentional about it, working from home (WFH) could start to feel repetitive, dull, even isolating. Like any role, it’s important to stay grounded in the benefits—and to actively shape your experience to make daily life feel good.
Here are a few of my favorite perks of working remotely, along with tips to help you make the most of your WFH lifestyle.
Claim Your Corner of the Internet: The Case for a Personal Website
A personal website is more than just a URL—it’s a declaration of presence, a digital home, and a dynamic extension of who you are. If you’ve ever wondered if you need a website, the answer is yes. Here’s why:
The Right Support Can Help Businesses Blossom
Most plants need specific conditions to thrive. Lighting, temperature, humidity—it all has to be just right. And beyond that, they require maintenance: watering, pruning, misting, and rotating. It takes effort and attention.
The same is true for my work as an Executive Assistant (EA). I’m here to tend to your business. I’ll help you identify the conditions your business needs to thrive. I’ll develop a plan to cultivate and sustain those conditions. And together, we’ll help your business blossom. 🌸
Designing a Workspace That Works for You
I have spent hundreds—probably thousands—of hours working from my couch. While I’m still not against that by any means, I must admit it wasn’t always what was best for me. In just a few months, the physical and mental benefits of having a dedicated workspace have already changed my life.
developed: batch 1
Today, I wanted to share some photos from the fall of 2020. If you’re into this kind of thing, do yourself a favor and rescue a film camera from the thrift store. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be entertained. 📸🎞️
