From Desk to Destination: Thoughts on the WFH Lifestyle

I’m writing this from a plane, en route to San Diego—and I can’t express how good it feels not to be using up all my vacation days for this trip.

I feel relaxed.

This kind of autonomy feels like a deep stretch: expansive, comforting, healthy.

That said, if I weren’t intentional about it, working from home (WFH) could start to feel repetitive, dull, even isolating. Like any role, it’s important to stay grounded in the benefits—and to actively shape your experience to make daily life feel good.

Here are a few of my favorite perks of working remotely, along with tips to help you make the most of your WFH lifestyle.

🌿 Start With a Pleasant Workspace

One of my favorite things about working from home is being able to design a workspace that suits my needs and personality. My office is organized, comfy, and cute. I’ve got lighting options, houseplants, a window right next to my desk—and yes, I light a candle for vibes.

Creating a space that feels good to be in is like a gift to myself. It helps me start every day on the right foot.

(I actually wrote a whole post about how to design your workspace to match your lifestyle—check it out here.)

🔍 Notice Areas of Opportunity

Maybe your current setup doesn’t feel great yet. That’s okay! Discomfort is just data—it shows you what’s not working and points you toward what might.

With a little attention and creativity, you can build a work-from-home routine you actually enjoy.

Here are some ideas to explore:

  • Upgrade your tools: A supportive chair, standing desk, walking pad, or a well-placed lamp can make a huge difference.

  • Use smarter software: Time trackers, AI tools, and project management platforms can simplify your workflow and take stress off your plate. If there’s a specific pain point in your role, there’s probably a tool that can help.

  • Align your schedule with your natural rhythm: Find your own energy cycles and work with them—not against them. Honoring your natural flow is key to avoiding burnout.

🔄 Switch Up Your Routine

As much as I love my cozy desk, I do get tired of being in the same spot all the time. I’ve seen WFH pros recommend changing locations on Fridays to mimic that “casual Friday” feel. With warmer weather on the way, I’m especially looking forward to working outdoors—sunshine and fresh air can do wonders for your mindset.

Frequenting a coffee shop or coworking space could also break things up in a refreshing way.

Or maybe… take to the skies.

That’s what I’m doing this week—working remotely from sunny San Diego while I catch up with my parents. The beauty of remote work is that, time zones permitting, it can happen anywhere.

I’d love to hear your thoughts—
Do you work from home? If so, how do you leverage your freedom and flexibility?
If not, is it something you’d like to try? Why or why not?

Let’s chat in the comments!
