Designing a Workspace That Works for You
✨ After over a decade of working from home, I finally have a designated office space I love. ✨
I’m not entirely sure what took me so long to make this happen.
I have spent hundreds—probably thousands—of hours working from my couch. While I’m still not against that by any means, I must admit it wasn’t always what was best for me. In just a few months, the physical and mental benefits of having a dedicated workspace have already changed my life.
Creating a Supportive Environment
One thing I miss about working in an office at my last job was the supportive vibes. Shoutout to Golden Gems! 🪩 From passionate, uplifting coworkers to a beautifully designed office, the space radiated TCB (takin’ care of business) energy. 👩💻💪
Creating a home office that reflects that kind of energy has been incredibly beneficial for my motivation and mental clarity. My office space supports me. It’s set up for my success. It’s comfortable, cute, and has everything I need to do my job well.
Prioritizing Physical Comfort
As someone who experiences chronic pain, I’m always looking for ways to ease discomfort and support my body. I was lucky to find a convertible sit/stand desk (for free! 🤑) on Facebook Marketplace.
Working at my desk is significantly more comfortable than working from my couch. My posture is better, and my back thanks me. If my body needs extra support, I can switch my desk to standing mode and use my balance board or acupressure mat. This small accommodation feels like the ultimate act of self-love. 💖
Designing for Inspiration
Not only is my workspace comfortable, but it’s also designed for enjoyment and inspiration. When I start my workday, I’m greeted by a space that reflects my personality and style. 🪷
If you’re anything like me, designing your workspace to suit your needs might just change your life for the better. After all, you deserve a comfortable, inspiring place to spend your days.
Designing for You
So, how does one create the ultimate workspace? Here are some tips to get started:
Determine what factors make you feel inspired and motivated! 🤩
Find accessible ways to incorporate those elements into your workspace.
Take inspiration from your favorite coffee shops, offices, or even movies!
Identify what detracts from your productivity. 🤨
Ask yourself: What causes you to lose motivation midday? What frustrates you about your current setup?
Seek creative solutions! Don’t hesitate to ask others how they’ve solved similar workspace challenges.
Keep an open mind and refine your setup over time. 💡
You may not create your dream office overnight, but if you try something new, you just might love it!
If something doesn’t work, no worries—let it go and try something else. Reduce investment risk by sourcing items second-hand and taking advantage of return policies. (I tried five different computer mice before finding one I love… don’t get discouraged!)
And remember, what works for you now may not work in the future. Keep checking in with yourself and adjust as needed. You deserve a space that works for you! 😉
