Creativity Tips for Non-Artists

You don’t have to be a painter or poet to be creative. In fact, creativity shows up in the way you solve problems, organize your time, or bring a little joy into the workday. Whether you’re a busy EA juggling calendars or a spreadsheet-loving business owner who swears they “can’t draw a stick figure,” these tips are for you.

1. Rethink What Creativity Means

Creativity isn’t just about making art. It’s about seeing connections, asking “what if,” and trying something new. Ever reworked a messy workflow into a smooth, color-coded dream? That’s creative thinking in action.

2. Start Small and Silly

Doodle while you're on a Zoom call. Rearrange your desktop icons or home furniture like a game of Tetris. I really believe playfulness and trying are fundamental parts of creativity. 🧩 3. Get Bored on Purpose

Put your phone down, stare out the window, and let your mind wander. Boredom is the compost bin of creativity—it looks quiet, but it’s cooking up ideas beneath the surface.

3. Make Space (Literally and Figuratively)

Set up a little creative corner—even if that just means adding a cup of markers to your desk and having scrap paper handy. If you can, protect 10 minutes a day in your schedule for “play,” whatever that looks like for you. Sometimes, it means doodling, sometimes it means seeking inspiration, but it always means letting my inner artist call the shots.

4. Let Go of the Outcome

Perfection kills play. Creativity flourishes when you give yourself permission to be messy, make “bad” art, or try something with no point at all. The process is the point.

Final Thought

You don’t need to be an artist to be creative. You just need curiosity, a little space, and the courage to color outside the lines.

Here’s to good work and playful moments!

Tell me—what’s one small way you bring creativity into your day? I’d love to hear it in the comments.
